HOUSING
Highlights
The British Ambassador’s residence is a Lutyens’ bungalow on Kasturba Gandhi Marg. The old colonial bungalow has around two acres of garden. The property has some beautiful mature trees of Mango, Chorisia, Cassia and Bauhinia. IPDM were commissioned to redesign the garden to suit the Ambassador’s private and public duties. The design concept was to utilize the symmetry and axial lines of the house with the axis being continued through the garden and culminating in a high fountain jet. Spaces around the house act as extensions to the living areas and verandas, whilst the larger garden is used for formal receptions, shows and festivals. A peripheral garden walk has been created that explores interesting nooks and corners. The swimming pool area is now enclosed to provide privacy.
