Hyatt Regency was one of the five star hotels to have come up for Asiad 1983’ games held in New Delhi. Because to its central location, majestic architecture and multi cuisine restaurants, it became popular very soon and has retained that popularity. In early 90’s, the owners decided to go for a major refurbishment of entire interiors and exteriors. The brief was to give a new life to the exteriors. The existing form being orthogonal, the new design uses flowing curves and various levels to make the space less rigid and formal. Next to the portico, high water falls are created to mask the sound of traffic from the main road. Each path junction is accentuated with a triangular water feature. Wooden pergolas are used as connecting elements. The result is an interactive space, vibrant in colour and form.
